This module looks at strong opioid analgesia in more depth, looking at changing between opioids and different routes of administration. This module also looks at some adjuvant drugs used in more complex pain management (although just as an introduction to the topic).

Learning Objectives

By the end of this module learners should be able to:

• list some common side effects of opioid analgesia
• state the difference between opioid tolerance and dependence
• calculate the equivalent dose of different opioids
• state the indications for different adjuvant medications
• name at least three adjuvant medications
